Sanders was diagnosed with a “very high -risk non -risk invading cancer”, but is now free of cancer, according to a statement by his oncologist.
“We removed the tumor. It was of great degree and invading through the bladder wall,” said Dr. Janet Kukreja, director of Urological Oncology at Cu Anshutz. “I am pleased to report that the results of the surgery are that he is cured of cancer.”

The oncologist said that the type of Sanders cancer has a very high recurrence and progression rate.
The treatment of the disease within the bladder would require a long series of treatments for a period of three years, and there would still be a 50% chance of returning the cancer.
Cancer could also have spread to the muscle, the doctor said, which happens in about half of cases.
Cancer could be detected three years before diagnosis with an experimental blood test
“Only about 10% of people live five years, even with our current medical treatment, if it metastic,” he said.
Together with his care team, Sanders made the decision to withdraw the bladder, in which the surgeons made a “removal of the robot -assisted laparoscopic bladder” and created a new bladder.
“It’s a new way of life. And it’s a safe learning curve.”
“It is a laparoscopic surgery where we attach a robot to the patient, and then we do the whole robot maneuver,” said Kukreja. “And then once the bladder comes out, we also take some lymph nodes to ensure that it has not spread and then we make a new bladder using [the patient’s] your own intestines. “

“It was a huge journey. It has been difficult,” he said at the press conference. “Everyone reviews, because if it weren’t for me to do -try something else, they would not have stumbled upon it.”
“And secure -you are going to the right care. Because without wonderful people like this, it would probably not be sitting here today, because it grew up so fast.”
Sanders also spoke of his struggles with the use of a catheter and no longer had control of the bladder, emphasizing that “it is a whole life change.”
“Blood in urine in the absence of infection is never normal and must always be checked.”
“I know a lot of people who are going through what I am going through and trying with what I am trying and let us be ashamed of this; let’s highlight this,” he said.
Sanders said he feels strong and ready to train again. “It was never in my spirit, in my heart, that God would not allow me to train again.”

Kukreja said that Sanders’s perspective is “very good”.
“We will only keep it in routine surveillance scans. Apart from that, nothing else.”
Bladder cancer notice signs
Although Sanders said he had “no sign”, Kukreja emphasized the importance of people aware of any red flag for bladder cancer, which is the fourth most common cancer in men.
“The first signs are usually blood in the urine,” he said during the press conference. “Blood in urine in the absence of infection is never normal and must always be checked.”

Even in the absence of symptoms, Kukreja recommends that you regularly see a primary care doctor, eat well and abstain from smoking.
“The coach was never a smoker and one of the people who, unfortunately, had bladder cancer,” he said. “But it is also a very associated thing to bladder cancer.”

The first signs of bladder cancer usually include blood in the urine. The least common signs include strong instances to urinate and frequent urination with minor discomfort that do not decrease with common treatments.
Dr. Chad Ryan Ritch, MD, an urological oncologist at the University of Miami’s health system, did not treat Sanders, but shared contributions on the leaf cancer warning signs.
“The main sign is the presence of visible (or microscopic) blood in the urine, without pain and in the absence of infection or trauma,” he told Fox News Digital.
According to Ritch, the least common signs include strong instances to urinate and frequent urination with minor discomfort that are not reduced to common treatments.

“They are known as irritating vacuum symptoms,” he said.

“This can be presented as pain in the flank and should not be ignored, especially if it occurs with blood in the urine and without other identifiable causes, such as infection or trauma,” said Ritch.
The doctor reiterated that the most common cause of Urothelial bladder cancer in the United States is to smoke – “so quitting and avoiding smoking is the best prevention.”

“Chronic infections of urinary tract and decades of bladder inflammation from instrumentation such as catheters can also cause scaly cell bladder,” added Ritch.
“The house message is that if you have these risk factors and you have visible or microscopic blood in the urine, it is important to see a doctor.”
